It is important to understand your goals with regards to training. They go hand in hand with your nutrition and you could be making the process more difficult than it needs to be.

Take training for example. If you want to get stronger in the gym but are spending all your time doing classes or cardio style workouts, you are seriously missing out. Although cardio is great for our health and should be incorporated into your training schedule, it will not get you strong. Lifting weight week in, week out using progressive overload will do that.

If your goal is to run a marathon but you are focusing only on resistance training and never incorporating any running practice, building up your running distance and cardiovascular fitness, you are unlikely to achieve your goal.

If you want to focus on building your lower body but spend most of your gym sessions on upper body focused movements, your progress towards your goal will slow or stall.

Think about what you want to achieve and train with your goals in mind. Everyone’s training schedule will look different, you do you.
