The importance of SLEEP 😴.
So many of us struggle with getting enough sleep each night. Work, kids, stress, training all take up so many hours of our day that we often forget to prioritise sleep.
But, the benefits of extra sleep are huge on your health and wellbeing
😴 More energy during workouts and the rest of the day
😴 Ghrelin is raised with poor sleep habits (the hormone that stimulates appetite) and leptin is reduced (the hormone that suppresses appetite) and therefore people who are tired generally eat more
😴 Sleep helps to improve brain function including concentration and performance
😴 Mental health issues such as depression are strongly linked to poor sleep quality and sleeping disorders
😴 Loss of sleep can impair your immune function. A study showed that those who slept less than 7 hours per night were 3x more likely to develop a cold than those who slept 8 hours or more
😴 Sleep can have a huge impact on inflammation in the body. Poor sleep has been strongly linked to long term inflammation of the digestive tract in disorders such as IBS .
So make sure you are getting at least 7-8 hours EVERY night. 4 hours one night and trying to “catch up” the next doesn’t work! Your body needs to rest and recover every single day!
